El Diablo event - Bard missing map in pocket/ not dropping quest item

Hello, I've been playing the map these past few days and tried different routes to the end game (which appears a bit too soon imo), but whenever El Diablo appears, the Bard doesn't drop anything after his death. Is there a way to get rid of El Diablo? We tried playing with tank, healer and rogue but we get killed too easily.

Or is there a way to get events going but not reach the El Diablo stage?
